"ANTITHETICAL IMPULSES" PAINTINGS BY FEDERICO CATTANEO

The Embassy of Argentina showcased this exhibit from September 12th to October 12th of 2018.

Federico Cattaneo(1985, Buenos Aires, Argentina) incorporates the use of fluid painterly gestures over a backdrop of oscillating pattern. He carves the shapes into the supporting panel and paint is applied with a squeegee filling the cavity flush with the surface. The textile patterns represent nature motifs; they move and decay across the picture plane. His work underlines the relation between object and image, sets the stage for antithetical impulses and explores ideas of space, form, labor and paint application. Cattaneo had received his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He currently lives and works in Miami, FL.
