On April 9, 2017, Cinema Art Bethesda screened My Friend from the Park (Mi amiga del parque) a 2015 Argentine drama film directed by Ana Katz. It was shown in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival where it won the award for screenwriting. The film was followed by a moderated discussion. Storyline
Liz is struggling to adjust to her new life as a mother. With her husband in a different country for work, Liz has left her job to stay at home and care for their baby, Nicanor. Feeling lost and alone, Liz begins taking Nicanor to the neighborhood park, where she strikes up a friendship with the blunt, spontaneous Rosa. From a dine-and-dash adventure to sharing fears about motherhood, Liz feels an immediate, liberating bond with Rosa.
