Between September 4 and October 4, 2019, the Embassy of Argentina and Rofa Projects presented, Geometric Conversations. An exhibition that attested to the importance and lasting legacy of geometric abstraction in Argentina and Latin America.

Two artists, Cristina Ghetti and Gladys Nistor, engaged in a continuous interrogation, deconstruction and reaffirmation of ideas about the evolutionary role of abstraction and geometry.

About the artists

Cristina Ghetti

Cristina Ghetti’s work clearly opts for the field of geometry. She carries out various researches on the evolution of geometric abstraction throughout the last decades, in her doctoral thesis entitled "Post-medial Geometries". Her work basically focuses on formal redundancy, one of the classic mechanisms used to achieve the sensation of virtual movement. She achieves serial systems of a linear or concentric character, to play with the finiteness of our sensibility, generating an effect of apparent movement.

Gladys Nistor

Gladys Nistor creates pieces and spaces that have a poetic content seeking to awaken doubts, question certainties, provoke some order in the disorientation. Objects configured for spiritual use. She likes to think together with the Lacanian aesthetic about art, that what surrounds it, is something indescribable, which cannot be represented. Art, then, is limited to pointing to a bottomless territory, and in that sense, an "organization of the vacuum". She uses geometry to explore and create metaphors: the provisional, the fragile, the mysterious (which is like saying life itself).
