Firearms Temporary Import Permit

Visitors wishing to introduce hunting or target shooting firearms into Argentina must apply for a Temporary Import Permit prior to traveling by completing the following steps:

A. Complete the attached form, ensuring that no fields are left blank or incomplete (where no information is applicable, fields should be marked “N/A”). Please note that the latest version of PDF Acrobat Reader is required to open the form.

B. Sign the form before a Notary Public, whose signature must then be authenticated by the corresponding County Clerk.

C. Prepare the following supporting documentation:

  • One passport-sized photograph;
  • Copy of airline ticket(s) showing arrival and departure;
  • Photocopy of the importer’s driver’s license as proof of address;
  • Photocopy of the first page of the importer’s passport;
  • Notarized copy of a valid gun permit issued by the authorities of the importer’s state of residence, containing the description of the firearm (U.S. Customs Form 4457, dated within the current calendar year at time of application);
  • Notarized copy of the hunting license issued by the competent authorities of the applicant’s current state of residence; and
  • A letter (or email, if preferred) including personal contact information such as phone number, email address, and mailing address.

D. Send the complete application package by post mail to:

E. Consular fee: USD 80.00 (debit or credit card only), payable either in person or through an online payment link, which will be provided once all documents have been reviewed and deemed complete and correct.

Please note that the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Washington DC can only issue permits to residents of Washington DC, and states of Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

It is the applicant’s sole and exclusive responsibility to fill out this form accurately and clearly, verifying that all the information provided is true. Incomplete or improperly notarized forms will be returned without legalization.

Please bear in mind that you will need your valid US firearms/hunting permit (original) to fetch your firearm from the relevant authorities at the airport.
