Mary Jeanette Stevens ventured to Argentina in 1883, with the mission of founding a normal school in Jujuy. She would be one of the only U.S Catholic teachers in the region.

Margaret Collord would take up a teaching post in Montevideo in 1889 to teach, while Mary Morse would become vice-director of the Mendoza Normal School. Margaret would join Mary in Mendoza; they would stay together for the next 30 years.
